Reggie Porter broke into Pine Valley with a scream, that of Anna Devane Hayward's. He held the pregnant police commissioner at knife's edge at the Front Street Clinic. Dr. Janelle Anderson calmed him down and he was carted off to juvenile hall. When there was a mix up in transport and he went to an adult prison, Trey Shepard came to his defense. Trey took the child in as he too was in foster care. Reggie got a job at Fusion that mainly consisted of him checking out the fab four. After Reggie and gang mate Luis where caught for trying to rob Trey's house, Trey revealed to he had a bad streak too, including burning down the Linden House But Reggie was still up for charges, and he exchanged info on Trey to get a plea bargain. Trey was carted off and Reggie was given to Jackson Montgomery.

Jack took Reggie under his wing making him his assistant He mainly took over the Habitat for Humanity job where he exchanged looks with resident good girl, Joni Stafford. Luis again wanted Reggie to help him steal the supplies from the house, but Reggie could not do it. He turned in Luis and testified against him sending him to prison; however, Not soon enough to save Jack from a near fatal gun shot.

Reggie and Jack began to grow closer as Reggie began to become more in accordance to the law. Reggie became the son that Jack never had. Jack adopted Reggie formally. He has become very protective of Jack, especially against Mary Smythe. Mary’s revelation that Greenlee du Pres was Jack’s daughter stopped his marriage to Erica Kane, who Reggie had grown fond of.

Reggie vied for the family he never had, seeing Erica more as a motherly figure. But, Jack and Erica’s ups and downs were ruining his dreams. He met a runaway, Danielle, and took her in. Danielle was a troublemaker, and was constantly putting Reggie on the edge of being arrested. One day, Jack’s friend, Livia Cudahy, came to the apartment to drop off some food. She was shocked to see Danielle, for she was her niece. Reggie again felt betrayed. Soon, Erica would leave Pine Valley altogether. Abandoned, Reggie began to think his new life was taking a turn for the worse.

Rather than cower in the face of adversity, Reggie took the situation by the horns. Erica returned to Pine Valley and scarred Reggie's sister, Lily Montgomery, in a drunken haze. Reggie took care of Lily as the other Kane's and Montgomery held an intervention for Erica. Erica began to recover, and she and Jack gravitated back towards each other. Reggie's family was piecing together. He was also forming a relationship with the estranged Montgomery, Greenlee.

Other than family, Reggie's love life was looking better. After a hasty start, he and Danielle were able to begin a real relationship. But trouble was never far for the two lovebirds. That summer, Reggie and best friend Jamie Martin worked together to reveal JR Chandler's manipulation of Babe Chandler. It went so far as to have Jamie and Reggie caught in the act of buying drugs while trying to pump information from JR's accomplice Seth. Luckily, Danielle was able to play damage control with her father, police commissioner Derek Frye.

When the school year started, Reggie had to protect Lily from a manipulative group of girls at Pine Valley High School. Reggie was constantly coming to Lily's rescue, bringing brother and sister closer than ever. Danielle and Reggie were also growing closer and intimacy became a question. Danielle was not ready to go as far as Reggie wanted to go. Jack and Reggie shared many conversations on love and the teenage years.

Bianca Montgomery left Pine Valley shortly after getting her baby, Miranda, back. The Kane Montgomery's next reunion would be in Boca Raton for Eric and Jack's nuptials. The clan was finally united officially, though emotionally they had long thought of each other as one family. Reggie had depended on Bianca during his initial months under Jack's guidance. But the ceremony was bitter sweet as Bianca had to return to Paris.

Reggie helped Dani come to terms with her mother, Mimi Reed, being back in town. One night, Dani was in an obvious bad mood after a family picnic. Reggie wanted to help Dani, but he needed to keep Lily away from Sam Grey who was drinking. Dani told Reggie leave and take care of her sister, when really she needed him to hold her. After a night of drinking and dancing, Dani lost her virginity to Josh Madden.

Dani began to act erratically. Reggie knew something was wrong but could not elicit any response from Dani. She finally broke out at her mother’s wedding, revealing she had slept with Josh and that her new stepfather, Garrett Williams, had made inappropriate advantages. Reggie wanted to help her, but he could not get past her betrayal.
