Mimi Reed’s first big case for the Pine Valley police department
was solving the mystery behind Palmer Cortlandt’s poisoning. Originally,
Opal Purdy was suspected for the poisoning, but Mimi’s partner, lieutenant
Derek Frye believed otherwise. Mimi and Derek clashed over how they were going
to pursue their leads. Mimi acted more rashly, while Derek was more procedural.
Derek’s suspicions 
were
correct when Stan Ulatowski was revealed to be the culprit. Derek and Mimi followed
Stan to his getaway plane. In a confrontation, with Derek, Stan jumped out of
the plane. As the plane began to loose altitude, Mimi took the helm and safely
landed.
Derek and Mimi’s fiery conflicts gave way to passion. But, romance on the job was greatly frowned upon by the police department. Mimi’s rashness on the job also put her at odds with her superior. She greatly re-evaluated her position after she shot an unarmed robber. Between this mistake and her violation of the personal code of conduct, Mimi decided to leave the force.
Mimi’s vulnerability made her susceptible to Lucas Barnes’ charms. Lucas was using Mimi to get close the Livia Frye, Derek’s sister and father of her child, Terrence Frye. After their one night stand, Mimi found out she was pregnant. She was not sure if Lucas or Derek was the father. Derek was devastated to learn about Mimi’s affair. But, he would stand by her through the pregnancy. The couple married and agreed to have a paternity test run after their child was born.
Danielle Frye was born at Pine Valley Hospital. Mimi was not as anxious
as Derek to have the DNA test run. Grace Keefer witnessed the Frye’s fighting
and took matter into her own hands. She kidnapped Danielle and planned to raise
the child as her own. Terrence tracked Grace down to a cliff were she admitted
that since her son’s death she has had 
nothing
to live for and could not understand why she had so much love for her dead son,
yet no one seemed to love this little girl. Danielle was returned to the Frye's.
Mimi forgave Grace when she found out her late son Tony Keefer was the unarmed
man she killed on the job years before. The DNA test results came back and revealed
Derek to be Danielle’s father.
Mimi and Derek’s marriage crumbled when she learned of his affair with new partner Taylor Roxbury Cannon. Mimi wanted to work again and was offered a job in New York. Mimi gained full custody of Danielle and left Pine Valley.
Mimi and Danielle grew apart with Mimi’s time on the job. When Danielle ran away to Pine Valley Mimi thought it best for Derek to deal with his rambunctious teen. Mimi had no idea the type of rejection Danielle was feeling.
Mimi was promoted to police captain. She began a romance with Garret
Williams who was quick to propose marriage. Mimi was anxious to settle down
with Garret. She returned to Pine Valley to claim Danielle; however, Danielle
had other plans. Mimi and Derek got in a 
fight
with both accusing each other of being negligent parents. Livia pulled Mimi
aside and reminded her that Derek had loved Danielle even after learning she
may be Lucas’. Mimi and Livia were unaware that Danielle was eavesdropping,
and was devastated to learn the truth of her origins.
Mimi had to team up with Derek to track down Witness Protection runaway Julia Keefer. Mimi feared for Julia’s life as the crime-lord who has sent her into the program years before, The Dragon, had put a hit on her. Back on the job, neither the Frye’s were aware of Danielle’s changing behavior. Mimi was especially jaded between the investigation and her upcoming wedding to Garret.
At her wedding, Danielle finally broke her silence and revealed that
Garret was making unwanted advances towards her. Mimi surprisingly took Garret’s
side. But, all of Mimi’s fantasies would come crashing down. Not only
were Danielle’s allegation true, but Garret was revealed to be The Dragon.
Mimi asked Danielle for forgiveness, but things had gone to too far. Mimi decided
to leave Pine Valley again, without Danielle.
