Maddie's conception was just as tumultuous as her brother's Sammy. Maria
was devastated by the lost of her son and the betrayal of her 
husband
taking their son away. She runs to Edmund's brother Dimitri for comfort, Dimitri
reeling from the break up of Erica is suffering his own lost. The two become
one-time lovers, easing each other's pain with a night of passion.
Maria realized Edmund did do the right thing and forgave him. Kelsey soon changed her mind and realized that Sammy would be better off having Edmund & Maria as his parents, so Sam was returned to The Grey's and left Pine Valley. Maria soon found herself to be pregnant, but who was the father?
Skye Chandler loved Edmund and wanted him for herself, she knew the way to do it was change the results of Maria's paternity test, showing Dimitri was the father of Maria's baby. One stormy night in a cabin Maria gave birth to Maddie with the aid of Erica Kane, Dimitri's wife; Maria's sister-in-law. Erica knew Dimitri and Maria's secret; she was going to make Maria pay for giving Dimitri some thing she couldn't, a child.
Erica took Maddie from Maria ranting to Maria she's unfit to be a mother
to this child and left Maria 
alone.
Erica was taking Maddie to a hospital, the rain was coming down hard and the
roads were slippery. Erica's car slid off the bridge and into the river. Erica
escaped from the car without Maddie, Erica kept diving to find her but couldn't
find baby Maddie, she was gone.
Ester found little Maddie and took her in. Erica came across Ester's trailer and realized Ester had Maddie. She passed herself off as Maddie's mother to Ester. Erica took Maddie and told Pine Valley she adopted this baby in Russia. Ester helped Erica care for little Maddie and soon learned the truth that this wasn't Erica's baby, she was Maria Santo's child. Ester made Erica see what she was doing was wrong and Erica returned Maddie to The Grey's.
Maria and Edmund finally had their daughter back! But their happiness
was short lived. On a flight home to Pine Valley, Maria switched seats with
Brooke English so Brooke and Edmund can finished their work for Tempo Magazine.
There was an explosion on the plane! The plane crashed landed near the edge
of a cliff. Brooke and one other passenger Jim Thomas en were the only ones
alive to remove the injured Edmund. Maria was pinned in her seat, Brooke tried
to free Maria but couldn't. Maria told Brooke take Maddie away first. Maria
asked Brooke to always keep her daughter safe as the plane slipped 
off
the cliff crashing into the sea. Maria was gone. Edmund, Maddie, Brooke and
Jim Thompson were the only survivors.
Edmund was now a widower and father of two young children. With Maria out of the way, Skye and Dimitri had a chance to get the lives they wanted. Skye wanted Edmund. Dimitri wanted Gloria Marsh, even if it meant taking his brother's daughter away. So Dimitri took Maddie his child with Maria, but Dimitri knew his really wasn't the father of Maddie. Maddie would make his new bride Gloria a very happy woman.
Dimitri wanted to keep Gloria happy with him; he knew the only hold on her he had was if Maddie was his child. Poor, poor Gloria, she was in love with Tad, a baby would replace Gloria's dearly departed Anna-Clare. She would never leave Dimitri if she had his baby daughter. Dimitri had to get Skye out of town before she would come clean and tell Edmund the truth; that she switched the paternity test.
But it was too late, Skye lost Edmund she finally realized they had
no future together; so she told Edmund the truth she switched the 
paternity
test Edmund was Maddie's father. Desperate to keep Gloria; Dimitri took his
family and fled to Budapest. Count Andrassy had a lot of power in Hungry, enough
to keep Tad Martin and Edmund Grey from entering Hungry.
So Tad and Edmund disguised themselves as ladies to get into Budapest. When they got to Vadzel Tad found Gloria and told her the truth; Maddie was Edmund's daughter. Gloria left Dimitri and Pine Valley to start a new life. Edmund got his daughter back; Dimitri's dastardly deeds lost him his wife and his brother.
Five years past, life went on in the Grey household. Edmund and Brooke
were to be married. Brooke had a secret she was keeping from Edmund; Maria was
alive and well as Maureen Gorman. But Maria had no memory of her past. 
She
was hunted woman, so she thought. Maria's past haunted her and she returned
to Pine Valley to learn the truth.
One the day of Brooke and Edmund's wedding Maddie saw her mother at the chapel, knowing her mommy was dead she thought her mother was an angel. When Edmund discovered Brooke's deceit; he had their married annulled.
Maria's past was over-whelming and too much to handle; she rejected
the life of Maria Santos Grey; she was Maureen Gorman. Only her children Sam
and Maddie drew her back to Wildwind, Maddie was the key to her past and slowly
with regular visits with Maddie, Maria's memories were coming back to her. 
Maddie was having a hard time accepting her parents with different partners, Mommy was with Aidan and daddy was with Mia. During a picnic in the park with Mia and daddy; Maddie was playing hid n' seek and witnessed the murder of FBI agent Chris Stamp. The killer turned the gun towards Maddie, but didn't get a chance to kill her.
Now Maddie was a marked for death. Flanders came after Maddie in the hospital, but Maddie's screams alerted her parents and Flanders once again got away. Now, Maria and Edmund were united in saving their daughter; while Maria, Adien and Maddie hid aboard Adam Chandler's yacht the Flanders tried again to kill Maddie at Wildwind.
Detective Derek Fry was waiting for the killer, Flanders over powered Detective Fry, knocked him out placing Derek in a closet tried up. Mia came into the house and Flanders attacked her, Edmund came into the room and the two men fought, Flanders managed to get away again with an extra advantage; Edmund's portable phone. All Flanders had to do was wait for Maddie to call her daddy. He didn't have long to wait; Maddie called daddy and Flanders found out her location.
Maddie faced Flanders once again, it would be the last time she had
to see Flanders, and he threw Maddie over the boat into the water. Little Maddie
was drowning, Maria jumped over the boat to save her daughter, but it was a
very foggy night and she couldn't find her daughter. With the threat of Maddie's
death before her very eyes, all of Maria's memories came back to her.
Sammy and Maddie are happily living with their mommy and daddy at Wildwind.
