Growing up in Crow Hollow, West Virginia, Del Henry never could account
as to why his father, Seabone Hunkle, was never in town for long. Little did
he know, Seabone was father to three other children on the other side of the
hill in Pigeon’s Hallow. Though neglected by
his
father, Del felt even more sorry for his sister Di Henry, who was sent to live
with the abusive side of the his mother’s Kirby family.
Del made his way out of West Virginia and headed for San Antonio, Texas for school. At university, he met pre-med student Maria Santos. They were deeply in love and Del thought they were getting serious. After their first intimate encounter, Maria pushed Del away. Maria left for Medical school, leaving Del puzzled as to why their romance ended.
Del’s health took a turn for the worse. His kidney was failing. He returned home to Crow Hollow where Seabone told his son the truth about his infidelity. Del sought his half-siblings who at last account has moved to Pigeon Hollow to live with their Uncle Palmer Cortlandt. Del came as a prying writer, slowly weaseling his way into the life of his sister, Dixie Martin.
Del had to break the news to Dixie that he was her brother. Dixie was
not surprised about Seabone’s infidelity because he was never a good father
or husband. Del told Dixie his true intentions: he needed a kidney transplant
and Dixie was his last hope. Dixie tested as a
match
and underwent the procedure. When Del woke up after surgery he found himself
in perfect health. Unfortunately, Dixie did not recover as quickly. Doctors
had to work hard to stabilizer her weak body. At the end of the day, the surgery
made it dangerous for Dixie to ever conceive a child. Though Dixie never faltered
in her love for Del, her husband Tad Martin made it readily apparent that he
was no longer welcome.
Back in Pine Valley, Del encountered Maria who had just married another writer, reporter Edmund Grey. Del needed closure as to why Maria left him all those years before. Maria admitted that she had learned she was pregnant, and attempted to give herself an abortion. The abortion had seemingly left her unable to conceive. Del felt betrayed by Maria’s lies and ended his pursuit.
His relationship with Maria brought him in contact with the Wildwind crew. After a brief courtship with Julia Santos, Del romanced divorcee Kendall Hart. Del promised to help Kendall write a tell-all book about her mother, Erica Kane Marick. In the process of researching, Kendall found out that her adoptive father had died. She needed to go back to Florida to take of her mother. Del proposed to Kendall so that they could go to Florida together.
Life in Florida was not all roses. Kendall was still hung up about
her life in Pine Valley. Del did not like the dark side he was seeing, and left
Kendall.
Not long after, Del fell ill. His body was rejecting Dixie’s liver. Del last hope was the sister that he remembered had been sent away when she as born. Del found Di and begged for her help. Di agreed, and soon Del was healthy again. In recovery, Del told Di about Dixie and her life in Pine Valley. Del had to leave Di to get back to his life, but promised to stay in touch with his sister.
Del did not expect to see Di on the news, much less posing as the late Dixie. Del came back to Pine Valley to confront Di about her lie. Di explained her reasoning to feign being her sister. She had witnessed the destruction of Dixie’s family. She had slowly pulled them back together. Del agreed to keep Di’s secret as long as he could stay with her at Chandler Mansion to finish a book he was writing.
Del’s loyalty was tested when Di disappeared and was linked to
the threats made to WPP escape Julia. Tad knew Del knew more than he let on.
But, he kept Di’s secret, all the while trying to figure out where Di
went. Di’s ruse came to an end when Stuart gave Tad Di’s letter
of omission. After being kicked out of the mansion, Julia offered to let them
stay at Wildwind with her until they could get back on their feat.
